Highly Experienced and Supportive Instructor
Since 2007, Melinda has led or been involved with over 24 postpartum doula training workshops, and is currently a Lead Instructor at the Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations at Bastyr University. She is a certified postpartum doula with DONA
, and a DONA and PALS
certified birth doula. Melinda has attended 180 births as a birth doula and served over 75 families as a postpartum doula over the past 11 years.
Melinda has specialized training and substantial support experience in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, grief and loss, lactation and breastfeeding, infant mental health, family nutrition, and diversity. She served two years as President of PALS Doulas and six years on the Board of Postpartum Support International of Washington. She has also worked as a Postpartum Support International support group facilitator and has presented at their annual conference. Her extensive doula and care provider networks are invaluable. This is a 4-day (32 hours) workshop
that fulfills the approved workshop requirement for students seeking DONA postpartum doula certification

Cancellation and Transfer Policy: Class registration may be cancelled and fees refunded, up to one month prior to scheduled first day of class minus a $50 non refundable fee. Registration may be transferred to another participant as late as one week prior to class with no penalty. In the event that there is an insufficient number of registered students to hold class, all fees will be returned (this will be decided no later than one month prior to class).

Important! Please review the Course Prerequisites:
- Read the DONA International Position Papers:
- Read at least one book from each of the following categories: "Becoming a Mother", "The Newborn", and "Breastfeeding" from the Postpartum Doula Required Reading List. (Postpartum Reading List)
- DONA no longer requires attendance at a Breastfeeding class prior to the Postpartum Doula Workshop (July 2015), however if you are ready to take a class for the breastfeeding requirement I suggest Liz Abbene at Enlightened Mama. She has offerings on August 4 and Sepetmber 22, 2016.
